Misfuelling of car – on-site assistance!

– If 2% or more petrol is added to a modern diesel car, it can cause failure of the diesel pump and injectors.

– If you add 2-stroke oil to the diesel tank of a modern common rail engine, you will damage both the injectors and the particulate filter. Ref: Petroleum Institute.

Filled the wrong fuel?

Filling the wrong fuel — petrol in a diesel car or diesel in a petrol car — can happen to anyone. We’re a mobile service workshop with many years of experience and agreements with major insurance companies.

We come to you wherever you are and fix the problem on the spot when you’ve filled the wrong fuel — while you wait. You can reach us by phone 24/7, all year round.
If you’ve started or driven the car until it stopped, we can handle that too.

How long does it take to fix a misfuelling?

It normally takes 20–60 minutes to drain the tank and, if necessary, the fuel system on site.

How long does it take from the time someone calls until you arrive at the misfuelled vehicle?

We aim to arrive as quickly as possible, but this will still vary based on the volume of requests and general traffic. Call for detailed information.

What do I need to pay on-site?

A payment of NOK 500 is made on site via card terminal, Klarna, or Vipps. This is a temporary deductible — a provisional payment — if the rest is covered by insurance. If your deductible is lower or higher than NOK 500, the difference will be refunded or invoiced afterward. Read about insurance here.

Petrol in a diesel car?

Filling petrol in a diesel car is easy to do. A petrol nozzle is 21 mm while a diesel nozzle is 25 mm — so it will always fit. This happens every day, all year round, and we’re here to help when it does.
Petrol has a lower energy content than diesel and won’t ignite through compression, which is why the engine stops when the wrong fuel is used. The main cause is not engine failure — although that can happen in rare cases.
If you’ve filled the wrong fuel, it must be drained — no matter the amount. Remember, we work with this around the clock and have far more experience than any dealership or tow truck driver.

The following may occur when petrol is filled into a diesel car:

  • Failure of the high-pressure pump and/or injectors due to inadequate lubrication.
  • Metal shavings in the fuel system from failed components – this means that a complete overhaul/replacement of the entire fuel system is necessary.
  • High mechanical stress on pistons and crankshaft bearings due to extremely unfavorable combustion cycle with gasoline contamination.

PS! Using two-stroke oil to compensate for inadequate lubrication creates harmful deposits on fuel injectors and residues in the particulate filter (catalytic converter), leading to blockages that require replacement. This is due to the ash-containing components in the two-stroke oil. Read about insurance here.

Diesel in a petrol car?

If you’ve filled diesel into a petrol car, it can cause serious damage. Unfortunately, most websites get this wrong. You’ve probably read on NAF, Motor, Viking, Falck, etc. that a little diesel in a petrol car is fine because diesel “lubricates.” This is misinformation that’s been copied from one source to another — and it couldn’t be further from the truth. Diesel does not combust properly in a petrol engine, lowers the octane level, leaks past the pistons, burns valves, foams the engine oil, and can ignite in the catalytic converter. This is absolutely not OK — if you’ve filled the wrong fuel, it must be drained, no matter the amount.
Remember, we deal with this around the clock and have far more experience than any dealership or tow truck driver.

The following may occur when diesel is filled into a petrol car:

  • Catalytic converter failure due to thermal overload (unburned diesel ignites inside the converter)
  • Removal of the lubricating oil film from pistons and cylinder walls – this will lead to wear damage and the risk of engine failure.
  • The lubricating oil is thinned out by diesel – this can result in ‘damaged’ oil causing engine failure.
  • The oil level can also rise so much that it may cause overpressure in the engine and/or allow lubricating oil to enter the combustion chamber. This can actually result in the engine not being stopped by turning off the ignition.
  • Knocking due to too low an octane rating – this can result in engine failure. This primarily affects engines without knock sensors, but engines with knock sensors can also be damaged.
  • If the engine has a lot of internal deposits, the diesel in the lubricating oil can dissolve these, causing the oil filter to become overloaded. This results in the bypass valve in the filter opening, allowing unfiltered oil to circulate through the engine. Read about insurance here.

Have you filled AdBlue into the diesel tank?

If you’ve filled AdBlue into the diesel tank — or diesel into the AdBlue tank:

AdBlue is a highly corrosive, salt-based fluid made from ammonia, and it requires immediate draining with specialized AdBlue equipment if it has been mistakenly filled into the diesel tank. If this isn’t done right away, you may have to replace everything from the tank to lines, fuel pump, and injectors.
AdBlue is so corrosive and coagulating that if it remains in the tank for just 24 hours, it may already be too late. If you’ve filled AdBlue into the diesel tank, you must contact us for on-site assistance immediately. This is not something that can wait.

If the engine is started even for a short period:

  • The misfuelled liquid (usually diesel) will enter the wrong system, which can lead to very costly damage.
  • AdBlue is not compatible with certain metals and materials, and it will gradually degrade the lines and components in the fuel system.
  • We know of many customers who, after being towed to a workshop, have ended up with bills of up to.. 200.000,-.

Do not start the car — not even for a moment. Do not move it — not even away from the pump. The tank must be drained while the vehicle remains in place. There’s only one thing to do: contact us — we’re available around the clock for exactly this reason.

Have you put water in the diesel tank?

If you have put water in the diesel tank

Do not start the engine, call us immediately:

  • Water is heavier than diesel and will be the first to be drawn into the fuel system, which can have costly consequences both in the short and long term.
  • Water causes injector failure and can lead to diesel pump failure, and even engine failure as a result.
Do not turn the ignition, do not start the engine.

The tank must be drained while the vehicle remains in place — we fix this on site.

Have you put diesel in the water tank?

If you’ve filled diesel into the water tank (motorhomes):

If you’ve filled diesel into the water tank, don’t touch anything — call us immediately.

  • Diesel in the water tank can result in all components in the motorhome needing replacement. If you start opening taps, everything from the water heater to the entire piping system may have to be replaced.
  • Diesel is lighter than water and will float on top in the tank. That’s why it must be drained from the outside first by our specialized service vehicles.
  • Then we need to add a chemical, which must be allowed to work in the tank.
  • No water users can be used while this is ongoing.
  • Finally, the system must be flushed repeatedly.

We fix this on site, right where the motorhome is.

A modern diesel engine can’t handle more than 2% gasoline.

If you don’t start or drive the car, you’ll most likely avoid any damage.

Gasoline and diesel have different properties such as flash points and lubrication qualities; if the mixture is incorrect, it can damage the engine.

Do not start the car, push it away from the pump if possible, and call us. Tel. 02134

Fuel-service helps you on the spot, around the clock — you only pay a temporary deductible of NOK 500 on site.

The remaining amount will then be invoiced according to your comprehensive insurance deductible, or the full amount if you don’t have comprehensive coverage.

Prices vary depending on the type of misfueling.

PS! If you’ve misfueled — don’t wait to fix it. Many expensive components can be damaged by sitting with the wrong fuel, and you might have to cover the repair yourself because failing to contact us is considered negligence. We can solve it immediately.

Fuel-service does not take responsibility for any consequential damage resulting from incorrect fueling.
